Julia "The Badger" Porter Scores Her First Goal
Simplot Soccer Fields
April 2008

It was a brisk spring morning out on the pitch. On the other side of the field stood the formidable Red Fireballs. This was Julia Porter's former team and she had something to prove.
Julia's First Goal

The score was all square (as are all matches seeing how we don't keep score). Right
winger Emma tosses the ball in with a deft overhead motion; leading Julia perfectly in stride. The plucky mid-fielder motioned the ball forward with a flick of her right foot and she was clear. Only the glare of the morning sun stood between her and the open goal.

With a powerful boot of her right foot, the inevitable was set in motion. In this her second se
ason in pee-wee soccer, Julia Porter scored the first goal of her young career.

The cheers rang up from the Porter contingent - f
irst in celebration and then in relief. Julia had always played with a tenacity unlike any other on the team. She brings no fear and has hit the pitch hard countless times. Her only reward for her relentless determination? After freeing the ball from the opposition, she silently watched the recipient of her hard work take the unopposed ball into the goal - thus receiving a watershed of undeserved glory.

But today, the glory was all hers. Not to rest on her laurels, she later followed with a second goal. A remarkable end to a remarkable day. All said and done, the score ended, as all do, in a draw.

The team celebrated the end of the match by cheering the opposing team, the customary running through of the human bridge (more photos in photo gallery), and juice boxes. A beautiful end to the beautiful game.
